How usable this site is, and where it is not
Built to WCAG 2.2 level AA, with text contrast at or above the AAA threshold that applies in each place. Not certified, because certification means testing we have not done.
What we did
- Every colour that carries text at body size measures at least 7:1 against the darkest background it can land on, which is the grey used for cards rather than the page itself. Text on a product's own colour is never smaller than 24px, or 19px bold, and measures at least 4.5:1, which is the threshold the standard sets for text that size. Both figures are in the repository and a script checks them on every build.
- The whole site works by keyboard, with a visible focus ring on everything.
- Nothing important is behind a hover, and nothing important is behind a click. There are no accordions.
- Pinch zoom is never blocked, and the layout works at 400 per cent zoom.
- Two things on this site move, and they are the same picture on the home page: a bar that draws itself when it scrolls into view, and a dot that then walks along it, pausing at each of the three gates. Both are over within five seconds of the bar appearing. Neither loops, and neither runs if your system asks for reduced motion. The bar is already complete before any of it starts and the dot is not on the page at all, so the movement adds nothing you need.
- There is no CAPTCHA on the contact form and there never will be.
- One page loads JavaScript, and it is those two. Every page works with scripts blocked or failed, including both forms, because nothing here is rendered by a script.
What we know is imperfect
- There is no dark mode yet.
- The typeface changed. The old one, Atkinson Hyperlegible Next, was designed for low vision and is measurably easier to read than the one that replaced it. We took that trade knowingly, for a voice the old face could not carry, and it is the clearest place on this site where we chose something other than the most accessible option available.
